What is a Cant Rail or Cant point (occupant restraint system) and why should I use one?
When a passenger is seated in a wheelchair on board a vehicle they have a tendency to move around a lot if the vehicle uses floor to floor anchors only.
The seat belt can drop off the passenger’s shoulder, down to the elbow.
Even in an emergency stop situation there is a greatly increased risk of injury to the passenger as they will be thrown forward.
The shoulder belt will be completely ineffective and at the very least you could expect injury to the elbow joint. The passenger could even receive facial injury when impacting with their knees or a seat back.
The cant rail is designed to hold the seat belt on the shoulder from a point higher than the passenger making the seat belt more effective.
